Book of Meditations001 Piece #Z01 – This was put together inside a pre-fabricated, 10-1/2 x 4 x 3/4 inch wooden tray that came from a Zen Garden kit that I purchased over the Internet. Comprised of four stones of differing materials, it’s approximately 6” high (with seagull) and weighs approximately 5lbs. The rocks are encased in and glued to a 1/2 inch of concrete that was then covered with a very fine red sandstone sand that was glued down to the top of the cement. It comes with a 31-page book of meditations. Retail price, $69.00; with seagull, $75.00; plus packing and shipping. Purchase information can be obtained by e-mailing me directly at kccandcj@yahoo.com
Description: This is a one-of-a-kind desktop Zen sculpture created from a collection of rock specimens gathered on various hikes. Most of these hikes were in and around the mountain ranges of Clark County and Southern Nevada.  Even though this is not a “sculpture” in the true sense of the word, it still gives the appearance of rock and stone carved and rising out of a desert floor of very fine, red sandstone sand. The red sandstone used to represent the desert floor actually came from the Redstone Loop Trail off of Northshore Drive in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. Background: I am always looking for ways to showcase what I feel are some of the more interesting and unique rock specimens picked up during my weekly hiking expeditions with the rock hounds from the Henderson Heritage Park Senior Facility. One day I was looking at a picture of a ZEN garden and had the idea that this might be one way to accomplish this. After spending a day searching the Internet, I finally located two relatively inexpensive Zen garden kits to use as a basis for creating the sculptures. I then found a site that sold "Mini Patio Mix", a cement composition for creating miniature gardens. Using these materials, the piece above was the result of my very first creation.
